The third EDBT Summer School on Database Technology took place in Gubbio, Umbria, Italy, on September 4-8, 1995, at the same location and with some joint events as the Fifth International Workshop on Database Programming Languages (DBPL-5). These dates were just before VLDB95, which was held in Zurich, Switzerland, September 11-15.

SCHOOL OBJECTIVES

In the last decade new applications for database systems have emerged that go beyond the standard business domain where database technology grew up and established itself. These new applications often require an extension of the functionalities of database systems with attention directed to the specific aspects of the new application. Furthermore, there is a body of knowledge and technology already existing in other fields that needs to be integrated with current database technology.

The aim of the school was to offer an opportunity for cross-fertilization between databases and other technologies, with reference to both general methodologies and specific new applications.
The school was directed to members of the research community (in the wide sense): researchers, graduate students, and professionals involved in R&D or in the use of advanced database technology.
